Florida House of Representatives' Select Committee on Hurricane Response and Preparedness To Review Member Recommendations Today
Date Published: 12-04-2017
The Florida House of Representatives' Select Committee on Hurricane Response and Preparedness meets today, December 4, 2017, at 3 p.m. (ET) to review a substantial list of Member recommendations intended to improve government actions and coordination in regard to hurricanes in the following policy areas:
- Shelters and Vulnerable Populations
- Health Care Facilities and Medical
- Future Hurricane Expenditures and Tax Relief
- Beaches, Sanitary Sewers, Stormwater, Flooding, and Debris Removal
Many of the recommendations relate to preventing or abating highly publicized situations that arose in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
Others involve creative solutions to property damage mitigation, such as "breakaway housing" that would intentionally not survive a major hurricane, but would protect sensitive sand dunes on beachfront property for future erosion prevention.

Today's meeting is for discussion purposes only. A vote on the recommendations is scheduled for the Committee's next meeting on December 7.
